Professors:  Revs. Rebecca Brimmer and Cheryl Hauer with BFP Staff and selected presenters.

Course Purpose: Understanding the current situation in Israel and connecting the modern state to the Israel of the Bible are made possible through this intense practicum by exposure to all levels of Israeli society. Students will gain an understanding of the connections between Israel and the church, as well as the complexities of modern interfaith relations.

Church History During the Formative Years (AD70-400)

CH-507-LS [3 credits]
May 27, 28, 2017

Professor:  Dr. Bill Adams

Course Purpose: The events that occurred between the destruction of the Second Temple and official recognition of Christianity by Rome are perhaps the most crucial events that have ever occurred for both modern Judaism and Christianity. If one wishes to build bridges between these two religions, one must have a grasp of whatever material can be gleaned from the historical record. Far too often the common assumptions on both sides are simply not historically accurate. A much more careful examination must be attempted.

SEMINAR SCHEDULE
Eastern Time Zone

Tuesday October 11, 2016
1:30p - 5:30p | 7:30p - 8:30p
Wednesday October 12, 2016
9:00a - 11:30a | 1:00p - 5:00p | 7:30p - 8:30p
Thursday October 13, 2016
9:00a - 11:30a | 1:00p - 3:00p

Purpose:  To provide the Doctor of Biblical Studies, Doctor of Arts, and Doctor of Ministry student an interactive faculty and peer assessment alternative to the courses, Research and Writing Course RW-700 and the Doctoral Writing Project DRP-700, through which the doctoral student will have an opportunity to present a defense of a key requisite associated with the student’s doctoral discipline.

Objective:  Following the successful completion of this course, the doctoral student will have demonstrated that he or she has a sufficient enough grasp of the breadth and scope of the chosen doctoral discipline that he or she is capable of presenting a cogent written and oral defense of a relevant key requisite of the discipline, and is capable of a successful defense before a body of peers under the supervision of discipline qualified faculty.

Emphasis:  Emphasis in this course is placed on the art and practice of rhetoric.  The doctoral student will not be unfamiliar with the importance of rhetoric owing to the fact that Biblical preaching and teaching are inseparably joined to effective writing, logical presentation of ideas and public discourse.

The focus on rhetoric required by this unique alternative to the courses, Research and Writing Course RW-700 and the Doctoral Writing Project DRP-700, provides the highly motivated doctoral student an opportunity to add a distinctive capstone to the earning of the Doctor of Biblical Studies, Doctor of Arts, or the Doctor of Ministry degree.

THIS IS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE THE DOCTORAL WRITING PROJECT OUT OF THE REGULAR SEQUENCE.  APPROVED DOCTORAL STUDENTS CAN ATTEND THIS CAPSTONE SEMINAR NOW, AND ACHIEVE A SIGNIFICANT STEP FORWARD TOWARD GRADUATION.
