The Doctor of Practical Theology Degree Allows You to Focus on Issues You Face in Ministry

Standard and Credit Transfer Programs

The Doctor of Practical Theology (D.P.Th.) is:

  • Self-paced (go fast, go slow, change pace as needed);
  • Not structured in semesters, quarters or terms;
  • Can be completed through the use of appropriate online technology such as email, and file transfers;
  • Allows the student to begin at any time of the year;
  • Allows the student to select the most helpful courses;
  • Optional live online or on-site small group learning seminars.

The D.P.Th. is a ministerial degree designed for those who would benefit by completing a doctorate with courses focusing on the working side of Christian ministry, but without the stricter requirements of a traditional dissertation or major writing project.

Entrance Requirements (one of the following):

  1. An acceptable master's degree of at least 30 hours in a Bible related discipline.
  2. Applicants holding an acceptable master's degree of at least 30 hours that is not in a Bible related discipline, may be considered for admission providing they meet one of the following:
    a.  Have earned an acceptable bachelor's degree in a Bible related discipline in addition to the unrelated master's degree.
    b.  Have served at least ten (10) years in a Christian ministry role such as pastor, teaching minister, missionary, Christian school teacher, chaplain, or a similar field of Christian service in addition to having earned an acceptable unrelated master's degree.

The Standard D.P.Th. program is the traditional degree format where the doctoral student completes the required orientation, and the ten course curriculum (a total of 32 credits).

The Credit Transfer D.P.Th. program is ideal for those with an uncompleted Bible-related doctoral degree. Individuals who have earned doctoral level credits, but have not completed their program, can now reach their goal!  It is also ideal for those who have completed all but a dissertation (A.B.D.), but for whatever reason have not been able to finish.

Both D.P.Th. Options:

  • Are self-paced;
  • Not structured in semesters, quarters or terms;
  • Can be completed 100% off-campus;
  • Use email and easy file transfers to send coursework;
  • Also integrate voluntary small group learning options;
  • Are designed to allow the student to begin at any time of the year.
